How can I apply for a Check Card?
When you open a new GMAC Bank Money Market Savings account, you will be offered a GMAC Bank VISA® Check Card. Upon acceptance of the check card offer, your card will be mailed to you within 7-10 business days after your account has been funded. For your security, you will receive your PIN in a separate mailing.
How do I activate my card?
Once you receive your card in the mail, dial the number that is listed on the sticker on the front of the card (1-877-296-2735) in order to activate your card.
What if I forget my PIN?
Simply call our Customer Care Department at 1-866-246-BANK (1-866-246-2265) and, after asking a few questions to confirm your identity, we will promptly mail you a PIN reminder. If you should require a new PIN, we will provide a new PIN for you.
How is my VISA® Check Card different from an ATM card?
The main difference between an ATM card and a check card is that an ATM card can only be used at an ATM, and not to make purchases. The GMAC Bank VISA® Check Card can be used to pay for purchases directly from your account – without spending time writing a check. You can use it at any merchant location displaying the VISA® logo. You can also use your VISA® Check Card to withdraw cash, get account balances, and transfer funds at any ATM that displays the VISA®, STAR® or PLUS® symbol. Federal regulations limit the number of withdrawals you may make during each statement cycle, so be sure to read your Deposit Agreement carefully.
How is my VISA® Check Card different from a credit card?
It is not a credit card, so you don’t pay finance charges. We deduct each purchase amount from your GMAC Bank account.
What should I do if my card is lost or stolen?
Please call our Customer Care Department at 1-866-246-BANK (1-866-246-2265) as soon as you discover your card is missing. (After hours, please call 1-800-528-2273) or write us at GMAC Bank Customer Care Dept., P.O. Box 951, Horsham, PA 19044. See your account agreement for full details. We’ll cancel your card and issue a replacement.
Can I use my Check Card to rent a car?
You can use your card to pay for your car when you return it. Most car rental companies, however, do not accept Check Cards when you reserve a car or pick it up.
Do I need a PIN to use my card at VISA® merchant locations?
You will need to enter your PIN if using the debit card function. You will not need your PIN if you use the credit card function. Simply swipe the card, or give it to the salesperson and then sign the receipt.
Are there transaction fees for using my Check Card?
There are no fees for using your GMAC Bank VISA® Check Card at merchant locations. However, refer to your Schedule of Fees and Services Charges for the specific ATM fees that apply to your account.
Where can I use my Check Card to withdraw cash, inquire about account balances, or transfer funds from my account?
You can get these services at any ATM across the country and worldwide that displays the VISA®, STAR® or PLUS® symbol.
