Identity Theft Protection

In today’s world, identity theft through “phishing” is a serious problem. How safe is your identity, and what can you do to protect it?

What is “phishing?”

“Phishing” involves Internet fraudsters who send spam or popup messages to lure personal information from you including credit card numbers, bank account information, Social Security number, passwords, etc.

Here are a few tips to keep yourself from getting “hooked:”

  • If you get an email or popup message that asks for personal or financial information, do not reply. And don’t click on the link in the message either.
  • Use antivirus software and a firewall, and keep them up to date.
  • Never email personal or financial information to anyone.
  • Review credit card and bank account statements as soon as you receive them.
  • Be cautious about opening any attachment or downloading any files from emails.
  • Forward spam that is “phishing” for information to spam@uce.gov.
  • GMAC Bank works hard to keep your identity safe. We will never ask you for personal information through an email.
